Born in London, Rosie McGuinness studied womenswear design: "It quickly became apparent that I didn't have the skills nor the patience for the technicalities of design," she says. Instead, the now established artist focused on drawing and illustration, however, fashion continued to shape and inspire Rosie's work.
With a friend, she ran a life drawing class alongside working odd jobs, and after a few years, she developed her practice and opened her own studio. Today her clientele has steadily grown to include Vogue Netherlands, Kinfolk, and Dior, and thus she continues to explore fashion illustration and textile print design.
"I like to draw confident, composed women at ease," Rosie says, and explains that she takes inspiration from the shapes of the figure and the attitude a pose can convey: "Along with the clothing, the hang of the garments, how pattern, fabric, and details work around the body... All combined it encompasses a certain mood and scene."
Her mix of colours and patterns are playful, yet always maintain an atmosphere of elegance.
"I'm interested in what can be portrayed simply and without conceit."
